David Weiss, the special counsel prosecuting and investigating President Biden’s son Hunter, testifies Tuesday in a closed-door session with members of Congress.

David Weiss, the federal prosecutor tapped to serve as special counsel investigating Hunter Biden, is slated to testify Tuesday before a House committee whose Republican members have questioned whether the Justice DepartmentIt is highly unusual for the Justice Department to make a special counsel available for questioning by Congress before an investigation is complete.

Weiss, the U.S. attorney in Delaware, launched the Hunter Biden probe in 2018, when Donald Trump was president. His work became the subject of debate in Congress after two IRS agents involved in the case, saying that Justice Department officials had dragged their feet on the politically sensitive case. One agent claimed Weiss told others that he was not the ultimate decision-maker on whether to bring, was fully authorized to oversee the investigation and make charging decisions.

“Mr. Weiss is prepared to take this unprecedented step of testifying before the conclusion of his investigation to make clear that he’s had and continues to have full authority over his investigation and to bring charges in any jurisdiction,” Hornbuckle said in a statement. “At the close of this matter, Special Counsel Weiss will prepare a report, which the Attorney General has committed to making public to the greatest extent possible, consistent with the law, department policy and the public interest.” he added.
