Senator Grace Poe on Monday urged the Commission on Elections to exempt the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board from its decision which prohibits a government office from spending during the elections season.
Poe, chairperson of the Senate public services committee, said the poll body must immediately act on LTFRB’s appeal, so it will be able to continue its distribution of cash subsidies to drivers affected by continuous oil price increase. “Our PUV drivers and operators have waited long for the cash aid that we have funded in the annual budget to bring succor to our people in times of distress,” the senator lamented.
Poe also stressed that the government cannot just “tell our people to hold on for relief until the elections are over.”
