Prince George RCMP seize hundreds of pills and suspected drugs, including fentanyl and methadone, in an operation targeting drug trafficking outside a pharmacy. The bust follows a leaked Ministry of Health document revealing investigations into alleged diversion of safe-supply opioids dispensed by B.C. pharmacies.

Prince George, B.C. — Police in Prince George, British Columbia, have announced the seizure of hundreds of pills and other suspected drugs, including fentanyl and methadone, in an operation focused on disrupting drug trafficking activities outside a pharmacy. This latest enforcement action follows the leak of a Ministry of Health document last week that revealed ongoing investigations into alleged diversion of safe-supply opioids dispensed by pharmacies across British Columbia.

According to Prince George RCMP, the seizure occurred on Tuesday when officers observed a man and a woman engaged in what appeared to be hand-to-hand transactions. Upon apprehending the pair, officers uncovered suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine, along with weapons and illicit cigarettes. In addition, police reported finding 50 bags of suspected pharmaceuticals containing more than 700 individual pills and two bottles of suspected methadone. The suspects have been released pending the outcome of the investigation. The leaked briefing by a Ministry of Health investigative unit indicated that a significant portion of opioids prescribed in the province are being diverted, with prescribed alternatives to street drugs being trafficked both within Canada and internationally. The briefing further stated that law enforcement agencies would be targeting specific pharmacies as part of their strategy to address this issue.
