UPDATE: Fire officials say the Diamond Fire in north Scottsdale was human-caused. The fire sparked Tuesday and burned 2,500 acres forcing more than 1,000 people to evacuate.
SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Evacuations are underway amid a large brush fire, named the Diamond Fire, in north Scottsdale.
As of Wednesday morning, fire officials say crews were"very successful" in the firefight overnight. However, winds and fire weather could be problematic Wednesday afternoon. Officials say about 1,100 residents were evacuated Tuesday night. Those evacuations are still in place Wednesday.The updated evacuation zone from officials, as of 9 p.m. Tuesday, is the area of Rio Verde Drive to Jomax Road between 160th and 130th streets.
On Wednesday, the Federal Emergency Management Agency authorized the use of federal funds to help Arizona fight the fire, which at the time of the request threatened 100 homes, a fire station, horse barns, golf courses and the McDowell Mountain Regional Park.
