In a new horror anthology just in time for Halloween, one of Marvel Comics' most terrifying characters reveals a new reason to Hulk out.
'Tis the season for spooky comics, and this year's Halloween anthology Crypt of Shadows #1 promises a terrifying turn on Hulk. Already a fearsome figure, Hulk's recent adventures have been building to a frightening, violent showdown with his latest arch-nemesis: Bruce Banner. After being captured, a new trigger for his endless rage is revealed.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Marvel's preview for Crypt of Shadows #1 includes a look at the story "A Soul Worth Hunting" by Sarah Gailey and Eder Messias, which reveals Hulk's latest trigger to rage thanks to Banner's meddling. The story finds Hulk partnered with Werewolf by Night, Jack Russell, in their own horror adventure. Hulk has been physically trapped and perhaps drugged or tranquilized when Jack finds and frees him.
The true monster of the story may be whoever or whatever could actually trap the Hulk, a creature that he and Werewolf by Night will surely track down. Jack Russell is a great Marvel character to pair with Hulk, as both have dual faces to show to the world, one considered a man, and the other a monster.Hulk Is Not Happy To Be Trapped Again Close The friction between Hulk and Banner has been a foundation of their story since Hulk's first appearance.
Banner Had Hulk Trapped and Manipulated In 2021's Hulk #1 by Donny Cates, Ryan Ottley, and Frank Martin, Bruce Banner partitions his mind and his Hulk personality to work like a spaceship. Banner himself is captain, as the ship - his physical body - stays in Hulk form. Any time his form starts to lose anger or try to change back to his normal human body, Banner sends more power to the "engines.
Other stories in the issue include Scarlet Witch facing off against a new villain called the Bricklayer; Deadpool against the classic horror character the Living Mummy; a team-up with Daredevil and Man-Thing; and host segments starring Doctor Strange's younger brother, Victor Strange. It will be interesting to see how Hulk's recent imprisonment by Banner fuels his rage at once again being trapped, and what will happen to the poor soul who trapped him once he is free.
