Warm, sunny and spring-like conditions across southeast Australia will soon be replaced by a blast of winter with temperatures set to plummet this weekend.
This week’s weather has been extreme for the month of August – with a rare drenching in the east and spring-like warmth in the south.
The seemingly endless run of days with northwesterly winds are now over as a colder west-to-southwest change moves in with a cold front. The cold air will settle through the weekend with Melbourne and Hobart looking at temperatures dipping below normal by Sunday to 14C and 12C respectively. Much of New South Wales was drenched with towns in the Northern Rivers seeing their wettest August spell in more than a decade.
