Botany Bay set for major industrial estate as council decides new plans
Chorley’s planning committee is expected to green light plans which will see an industrial estate built at the iconic Botany Bay site.
If approved, the development from FI Real Estate Management will see the creation of Botany Bay Business Park, a collection of 10 buildings containing varying sizes of commercial and employment uses. One of the units is earmarked for use as a diner and there will retail space but there is little clarity over who else will occupy the new buildings.
The site is currently being used as a storage facility for the Leyland Truck factory which is experiencing delivery delays which could otherwise halt its productions. Meanwhile, the owner of a canal cruise company which operates from Botany Bay has been told he will no longer be able to use the location when the development begins.
It states: “The proposed development would clearly contribute to economic growth within Chorley supporting the provision of employment and meets with the expectations of the Chorley Local Plan 2012-2026, fulfilling the requirements of the allocation. There would be no unacceptable detrimental impact on the amenity of neighbouring occupiers or on the appearance of the site and character of the area. In addition, there would be no unacceptable impact on the highway network, ecology or drainage.
