With two of their top players at the FISU Winter World University Games, the X-Men edged the conference-leading UNB Reds 4-3 in overtime. Nelson fed Hudson who scored his second goal of the night 43 seconds into the extra frame. “ didn’t really have a shot, so he stuck with it, had patience, went around the net and found me in front and it was an easy touch in,” Hudson said of the winning goal in an UNB news release.
Hudson moved into second in the AUS scoring race with 28 points, one back of teammate Liam Hawel. Hawel and Matthew Struthers are in New York for the University Games.“It’s a tough building to win in, so coming in here, our last game here of the regular season, it was an unreal feeling," Hudson said."We’re looking forward to the rest of the season.”
Simon Pinard potted a pair of goals and Emmett Sproule scored with 12 seconds remaining in the third period for the Reds, who sit atop the conference standings with a 17-3-2 record, six points ahead of UPEI.In AUS women’s hockey, Saint Mary's blanked St. Thomas 2-0 and UPEI slipped past Dal 1-0.
