It took 11 days before I showed symptoms, which is crazy, because I definitely went grocery shopping and to Target to get supplies, mask-free, not knowing I was spreading it. On the 22nd, I was like,"Hmmm, I feel slightly achy" -- but I have rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, so I refer to aches as symptoms of those illnesses. But on the morning of the 23rd, my throat was sore, like I had been screaming all night at a concert, and I instantly knew this was not going to be the flu.
My fiancé and I live together. I quarantined myself in our home in Long Island. Our daughter is about a month away from turning two. I just stayed upstairs. It was tough because I could hear her:"Mommy, Mommy, Mommy!" On the 2nd or 3rd [of April], I felt well enough to work. I took the most sick days I've ever taken in my entire career. It was about eight or nine days of not really working. Everyone's doing these Zoom calls, and that's how we're doing our marketing meetings, and I basically didn't show my face. I was getting texts from people:"Uh, you sound pretty awful."
