You might also be wondering if it makes sense to wipe down every item before you put it into your cart. Don’t worry about trying to take this step, Swartzberg says. “Either you or someone else is going to take them out and put them in a bag,” he says. It’s not worth stressing and wasting wipes—plus, it’ll drag out the length of your grocery trip, increasing the time you’re around other people and potentially exposed to the virus.
