How to make a 'Game Of Thrones' dragon:

The VFX team is led by HBO’s VFX Supervisor Joe Bauer and VFX Producer Steve Kullback, who have been in charge of the visual effects for the series since season three and season two, respectively.
The animations evolved with each season as the storyline changed and the dragons grew from adorable baby hatchlings into Over the seasons, Martin’s team would meet with Bauer to discuss the new elements. In particular, 747 airplanes were a huge reference point.
As tweens and teenagers, the team referenced wolves and dogs. At this point, they were becoming more protective of their mother Daenerys. They were also in the thick of the awkward teenage years and not fully aware of their strength and power. Like most teenagers, this was also when they began to rebel against their mother.types of lizards, snakes and other reptiles were used as reference points in the making of the dragons. Birds were also a huge inspiration.
“It creates the illusion of real animals without humanizing them too much,” he says. “The perception of pets was actually a key description during all these years; just enough to mimic an emotional expression to understand their thoughts, but we still kept them wild animal creatures.”Martin and his team also saw them through season six’s struggles when they were emaciated and starving. They had to find subtle ways to show their suffering.
