He broke completely out of his leg braces one day while running, and saw no use in continuing to wear them.
But Hacker didn’t start at that high level. As a kid, he was embarrassed by his leg braces, and wore jeans all the time to cover them up, he told. He didn’t play sports because of poor hand-eye coordination and other mobility issues.
