Keane communicated with her friends that it was dark and snowing, but that she felt safe on buses.Article content“It happened really fast. I think somebody gasped from the back of the bus and then it must have slipped or something,” Keane recalled. “It flipped and then it slid along the other side of the road for a bit.”Photo by RICHARD LAMThe accident happened shortly after 6 p.m.

While this accident has shattered four families who lost loved ones, and left others healing from serious injuries, a central theme emerged at the scene, and carried on through Christmas Day and Boxing Day: strangers helping strangers through a terrible tragedy. Mia Keane was a passenger on the Ebus that crashed on Dec. 24. Her mother Karen Keane is relieved to have her home.Keane found a first aid kit on the bus that she brought outside to help those who were bleeding. She was frustrated, though, to discover it did not contain scissors or a knife, which she needed to free a couple who were hanging from their seatbelts and unable to open them due to the pressure of their suspended bodies on the buckles.
