At the Halton District School Board, instructional program leads Jamie Mitchell and Tamara Phillips train teachers on several AI tools and have them experiment using the technology with students. “A lot of kids are saying they want to learn how to use AI properly, and they want teachers to teach them that,” he says.The sessions began with addressing concerns about cheating, Mr. Mitchell says. “There are some school boards that have policies, some that don’t. Some provinces might have a framework or some principles, but generally speaking there’s a huge gap in terms of guidelines and guardrails,” she says.a guidance document for school leaders, teachers and families that emphasizes the ethical use of generative AI.
