Big Mouth is all about puberty. The Netflix series follows a group of anxiety-addled middle school kids as they navigate the treacherous path to adolescence, with Big Mouth's Hormone Monsters aiding and abetting the young teens along the way.
Despite this, Big Mouth is not always entirely transparent about the ages of the show’s protagonists. Part of the reason for this is that Big Mouth’s cast of characters is intended to be a relatable caricature of an entire life stage, meaning there is no need to tie them to a specific age. Another reason is that Big Mouth began in 2017 and has lasted seven seasons, meaning the show’s creators want to avoid aging up the characters.
In an early season of Big Mouth, Judd still attends high school while Nick is in middle school judging by his father asking him about school. However, by the end of Nick’s tenure in middle school, Judd had purchased alcohol and driven a car numerous times. He needs to be at least 16 to drive in New Jersey and, while he might have bought alcohol with a fake ID, it’s unlikely that a fake ID would work if he was a lot younger than 21.
