The Chicago area has been dealing with a unique ‘blocking pattern’ that has kept rain from falling in the region, but how long could that last?
At the very least the pattern is expected to keep rain out of the area for the rest of the weekend and well into the new work week, according to the NBC 5 Storm Team. That means there will be plenty of hazy sunshine in the forecast including on Sunday, with highs expected to rise into the mid-to-upper 70s, according to forecast models.
Sunday’s forecast will essentially be duplicated on Monday, though there is a possibility some areas in the far western and southern suburbs could hit the 80-degree mark, but the sunshine is going to be accompanied by a very subtle shift in weather patterns moving into the rest of the week. According to the NBC 5 Storm Team, the blocking pattern is slowly going to break down beginning on Tuesday, though at first area residents may not notice it, because it will feature clouds clearing out of the area and abundant sunshine for several days.
The real big difference will be in the temperature, as readings will climb slightly on Tuesday and then into the 80s by Wednesday. Wednesday and Thursday could see readings in the mid-80s across the area, but a weather system will slowly begin to gain momentum over the Great Plains, and by late Thursday and into Friday, the Chicago area could see its first dose of rain in nearly two weeks, according to extended forecast models.
In fact, that rain could linger well into the day Saturday, though temperatures are still expected to remain on the warm side, rising into the low-to-mid 80s across the area. After a brief respite from rain on Sunday, another weather system could arrive by next week, bringing with it a chance of showers and thunderstorms.
