Box office predictions for the horror film Five Nights at Freddy's, based on the video game series of the same name, are relative to its budget.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Produced by Blumhouse Productions, the Five Nights at Freddy's movie is poised to be a box office success, despite its elevated budget when compared to many of the company's other horror hits. The supernatural horror movie is based on the 2014 video game, which launched an entire franchise and an active and passionate fan subculture.
Like the game, the Five Nights at Freddy's movie follows a desperate man who accepts a job as a security guard for an abandoned family fun center, only to find out that its animatronic inhabitants are both mobile and hostile. The limited scope of the horror film's setting and the small size of its cast theoretically should have led to a very minuscule budget, but other factors drove the overall cost of production up.
Five Nights At Freddy's Can Bomb and Still Turn a Profit Jason Blum revealed to Fortune that even if Five Nights at Freddy's is a complete disappointment at the box office, the movie will still be profitable. The sale of its theatrical and streaming rights — the movie will debut on Peacock the same day that it hits theaters — were apparently enough to recover the production costs.
Box Office Pro predicts the movie will have an opening weekend between $33 million and $42 million, which would yield a domestic total between $60 million and $90 million. That would make Five Nights at Freddy's another monster hit for Blumhouse, following in the footsteps of M3gan and The Black Phone as a high-profit horror winner.
