Governor JB Pritzker is promoting his family relief plan as part of his budget proposal, suspending sales tax on groceries and freezing the gas tax
"I've got two kids who eat a lot of food, so I mean, over the course of the year, it will probably make a little bit of difference. Every bit of money helps," said Doug Pawlik, who was grocery shopping with his two young children.
"Because we have balanced our budget and because we have a surplus, this is the most straightforward way for us to help residents who need it most," Pritzker said. The other part of his plan that the governor was out promoting Friday was the one-year suspension of the hike in the gas tax, which would have added 2.2 cents to the price per gallon.
