It’s not that homeowners don’t want to recycle their food scraps. They just don’t have a clear understanding of how these programs work.
With only a few months to go until Vermont’s new ban on food scraps in landfills goes into effect on July 1, residents like Irene Nadler are in the dark about how it will work.
“There’s so much going into the landfill and I feel good about reducing that,” says Ms. Nadler, a 74-year-old retired school administrator who lives in Sunderland. But she’s not sure how the program—which may be delayed due to the pandemic—will work and what she’ll be able to recycle.
