How Heathrow may counter the threat of drone disruption:

That could disrupt air travel at the U.K.’s busiest airport, as they did earlier this year.
Second, drones can be detected by radar, in much the same way as aircraft or most flying objects can be detected by radar. This requires a different radar system than Heathrow uses to detect airplanes, because air traffic control radars are designed to filter out low and slow moving targets to avoid cluttering controllers’ scopes.
Once the vehicle is detected, the mitigation strategies that are available vary by country. In the United States, drones are considered aircraft, and thus are afforded the same protections as manned aircraft. Since the passage of the Preventing Emerging Threats Act of 2018, a few select federal agencies have been legally allowed to interfere with drones in flight in certain circumstances.
