Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham wrote “Go Your Own Way” in 1975, when he was desolate over his breakup with Stevie Nicks. “The lyrics were an honest representation of what I was feeling.”
Following his romantic breakup with bandmate Stevie Nicks in 1975, Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham was desolate. In an attempt to move beyond the rejection that left bitter feelings, he wrote “Go Your Own Way.”
When the song was released in December 1976, it was the first single from the band’s “Rumours” album and climbed to No. 10 on Billboard’s pop chart, where it remained for 15 weeks. And it wasn’t the only song on the album about their breakup. Ms. Nicks’s song, “Dreams,” which went to No. 1, is her take on their volatile relationship and split.
