I think when people are trying to network, they often ask, ‘Can we go for coffee?’ I’m a business owner and a mom of a toddler; I can’t go for coffee with strangers unless I know what’s going to happen. So, it’s about being very kind and empathetic and putting yourself into the shoes of the person you reach out to.

He had a job as a telephone surveyor and said, ‘You can come work here.’ I didn’t think at all about whether it was a good job – just that it was a job – and I wanted it because I wanted money.
