She recalls being excited to join an art history club on campus, only to discover an all-white artist lineup. “All the discussions, all the artists are white, no artists of color, really… so I was like, ‘You know what? I can start my own art history club.
Although these pages are the products of many hours of curation, Konaté emphasizes that the nature of these pages means that the content, in a way, belongs to all who consume it: “When you are an interdisciplinary research platform, such as CAS, that engages and works within the internet, you are inherently part of the circulation economy,” Konaté says.
“I'm gonna share this topic, or this really important thing, art related or not, [it] could just be related to Black folks, and I will share it, and then suddenly, my numbers go down, or... the engagement goes down,” Tiffany G says about experiences with Instagram limiting her page’s reach. “And it used to worry me at first.
