'Well over 50% of the firearms recovered in Columbus, for example, come within 25 miles of Columbus,' an ATF special agent said.

The ATF and Columbus police are working to trace weapons and stop the flow of illegal devices known as Glock switches that convert pistols into fully automatic weapons. "This is illegal, and this is one that was imported," said Special Agent in Charge of the Columbus Field Division for the ATF Daryl McCormick."It is professionally manufactured, most likely came from China," said Special Agent McCormick, showing WSYX a switch. "...

"Number one is youth violence. A lot of youth being involved in gun violence at a rate that's disturbing. Second thing that I will tell you here in our area, we're seeing the machine gun conversion devices, the Glock switches, we're seeing those used a lot mainly tied to the narcotics trade," he said."We have about 10% of all the firearms recovered and traced by law enforcement in the Columbus area at a time to crime 90 days or less.

"Just the overall prevalence of guns, I think, you know, year to date, we've seized 1,366 guns, which it's not a significant percentage over last year, but it is over last year," said Deputy Chief Smith Weir.
