49ers’ quarterback Trey Lance had three so-so series against Houston before giving way to Nate Sudfeld against Houston.
The training wheels will come off 49ers quarterback Trey Lance following his most extensive play of the preseason in a 49ers’ road game against the Houston Texans.
“Some ups and downs for sure,” Lance said. “It never feels good to lose. We’ll learn from it and turn the page. Some ugly stuff out there for sure. It definitely wasn’t our best night. We’re not going to make too big a deal out of it.” “I wish it was cleaner, but I’m not going to make too much of it,” Shanahan said. “They got into some long down-and-distance situations which made it tough.”“He hasn’t played a lot of football,” Fitzpatrick said at halftime. “He trips up over the tailback. Things are going really fast in his head right now. That’s telling me he’s a little bit nervous.”
Lance completed 7 of 11 passes for 49 yards and ran for one yard on one carry on a passing play in which he broke out of the pocket. The 49ers trailed 7-0 when he departed in favor of backup Nate Sudfeld.
