Houston Methodist is one of the nation's top large employers, second only to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in Forbes's list of top large employers filled with Texas companies.

Forbes created the list based on a survey of about 45,000 American workers from companies that employ more than 5,000 employees conducted in partnership with German market research firm Statista. The Forbes list ranks the top 500 companies that received the most recommendations in the survey.— no. 37 and no. 38, respectively.

“The patient really is at the center of everything that we do,” Sara Loewy, director of business development and hospital operations at Houston Methodist Hospital, . “At the same time, it’s clear that our senior leaders really know that ensuring that our employees are happy directly impacts the patients.”Among Texas cities, Dallas has the the most employers in the top 100, including the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at no. 19, Southwest Airlines at no. 70 and Topgolf at no. 83. Other Texas employers on the list are San Antonio-based United Services Automobile Association at no. 42, Round Rock-based Dell Technologies at no.

Other companies with Houston headquarters landed outside the top 100, including Hewlett Packard at no. 215, Sugar Land-based Schlumberger at no. 289, Sysco at no. 383 and Waste Management at no. 421.
