In the Katy prairie area, from 2001 to 2019, 60,404 acres changed from having no pavement to some amount of development.
Occasionally, the conservancy has benefited from development. Over the years, developers have donated acreage toToday, the conservancy's protected land is surrounded by growing, including Katy Sunterra, Bridgeland, Winward, Freeman Ranch by LGI Homes, Marvida and Elyson.
