As the provincially-imposed deadline of Dec. 16 draws near, Sooke council has defeated a motion to implement housing amendments.
The District of Sooke asked for an extension on implementing the housing requirements until infrastructure upgrades to address traffic issues could be addressed.
An extension for the housing changes to Dec. 31, 2030 was denied, but Sooke was granted an extension to Dec. 16. 2024. “I’m not happy with the density in some areas. I’m really taken aback that the provincial government hasn’t looked at our infrastructure.”“I think this is a chess game, we need the province to invest in our community big time,” St. Pierre said in the Nov. 25 meeting.
