The House of Representatives is slated to consider two bills aimed at preventing bans on gas stoves after the Biden administration proposed efficiency and conservation standards for household appliances earlier this year.
The two bills, the Gas Stove Protection and Freedom Act and the Save Our Gas Stoves Act, are scheduled to be considered on the House floor this week.
The Save Our Gas Stoves Act would prevent the Department of Energy from implementing the rule, which some believe would clear the way for a gas stove ban, along with preventing any similar rules from being enacted. The dual bills were introduced in March by Reps. Kelly Armstrong and Debbie Lesko , who both denounced the Biden administration's proposed rule.
“The Biden administration’s extreme proposed regulation that will ban nearly every gas stove on the market is just another example of out-of-touch bureaucrats trying to control Americans’ everyday lives,” Lesko said in a statement in March. If the bills pass both the House and the Senate, it will force President Joe Biden to weigh in on the gas stove debate by either vetoing or approving the bills to prevent a ban of gas stoves.
Since the proposed rule by the Biden administration in February, various gas stove ban initiatives have been gaining traction in several states, including New York, California, and Washington.
