House Prices Are Lagging In 71% Of Canadian Markets

As markets tip into buyers’ territory, house prices have behaved pretty predictably, either slowing or slipping in CMAs across Canada.“However, with real estate activity slowing, price growth moderated compared to the previous month for the third consecutive month, with September’s 0.7% increase less than half than seen

All 11 of those markets reported some degree of month-over-month price gains last month, led by Halifax , Ottawa-Gatineau , and Victoria . Smaller increases were recorded in Vancouver , Calgary , and Toronto . The smallest increases were recorded in Montreal , Hamilton , and Edmonton . “Of the 31 cities covered in September, 71% experienced slower growth than the previous month, the most generalized slowdown since July 2022 and the second most widespread in the last nine years,” says King.
