Breaking: House Dems cancel vote on budget plan amid internal revolt
House Democratic leaders are yanking a key budget measure from the floor this week after facing opposition from both progressives and moderates.
Facing sharp pushback from both corners of the caucus, House Democratic leaders are considering pulling the plug on the bill to set federal spending limits. They'll need to decide within hours — likely at a leadership meeting Tuesday evening — whether to risk an embarrassing defeat just ahead of the party’s annual retreat and its 100 day mark in the majority.
“There’s all kinds of things we have not asked for because given divided government, it’s going to be very difficult. This is not a hard ask,” Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a co-chair of the CPC, said of the group’s push to increase domestic spending.Sign Up Democrats left a closed-door meeting Tuesday morning with doubts that the bill — which is the launch-point for this year’s battle over budget caps — could pass Wednesday when it’s slated to hit the floor.
