Return of Pride Parade and Festival lit up the streets in Vancouver\u0027s West End, and united thousands after pandemic hiatus
An extreme heat warning didn’t keep away thousands of people who wanted celebrate 2SLGBTQAI+ communities as the event returned to Vancouver streets after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.
The back-to-back community events each drew huge crowds to English Bay, prompting drag entertainer Kendall Gender, a parade route event host, to joke that overnight the neighbourhood “went from straight pride to gay pride.”Photo by Staff photo Ali Duke came early to stake out a spot on the shady side of the parade route for her family, including Cameron, 10, and Juliana 8. Duke said that as a “queer single mom,” the return of the event meant a lot to her family. Daughter Juliana said that during the event’s two year absence she missed the “candy, flags and drag queens,” and son Cameron said he was there to “celebrate inclusivity.”
