Hootie & The Blowfish (HootieTweets) reunion tour racks up $10 million in grosses (so far)
is keeping the '90s alive with the first reports from their 2019 reunion tour. The trek’s first 13 dates grossed $10.9 million according to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore, enough to hit the pole position on the Hot Tours recap dated July 6, 2019.
Hootie & The Blowfish's reunion trek, dubbed The Group Therapy Tour, marks the band’s first live shows since 2008. The tour celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Hootie’s Billboard 200 chart-topping 1994 LP . But while the band struck gold in record stores and on radio playlists during the '90s, they are seeing their biggest returns yet on the road in 2019.
The 2019 tour already accounts for the band’s 11 best-grossing shows of its career, including four dates that crossed the $1 million threshold. They grossed $1.1 million in Raleigh, N.C. , Atlanta , and Tampa, Fla. , with an additional $1 million in Dallas . So far, the tour is averaging a stellar $840,000 per show, a 207% increase over their 1996 pace of $274,000 per night. Much of that increase is due to ballooned ticket prices, an effect of a generally bloated ticketing market and one of pure inflation. While you could have purchased a tier one ticket to see Hootie for $22 in 1996 , 2019 dates range from $29.50 on the low end to $139.50 for premium seats.
But their career-high grosses are also a product of heavy demand. Not only is the Group Therapy Tour sporting the band’s best grosses ever, it marks their highest attendance figures too. While the averaged attendance of 9,458 fans in 1995 and 11,405 in 1996, the 2019 run is boasting an average 13,508 tickets sold. In total, they have sold 175,603 tickets in 2019. finished as the No. 1 Billboard 200 album of 1995, and ranked No. 7 Billboard 200 album of the 1990s.
