According to The Guardian, beekeepers used to experience losses of only 10-20% during winter months two decades ago.Several factors are contributing to this alarming bee decline. Project Apis m has identified climate change, urban sprawl, and widespread herbicide use as significant contributors. The U.S. Department of Agriculture is investigating the potential role of bee-killing viruses and parasites in the devastating losses, while researchers at Cornell University are focusing on the impact of pesticides. The Guardian reports that Cornell researchers had to step in to lead this research after the Trump administration restricted federal funding for a similar study.
