Honda’s new Civic Hybrid sedan will be built in Alliston, Ont., the automaker announced Oct. 19, as it readies an electrified version of the popular compact car for the North American market for the first time in nearly a decade.
The Civic has been assembled in Alliston for more than three decades. Plant 1 built its first model of what was at the time a subcompact car in 1988. It’s expected to build its six millionth Civic this month. The Japanese automaker said the introduction of the 2025 Civic Hybrid in North America is another “key step” in its electrification strategy.
Honda did not disclose the full breadth of the spending at the time, but retooling for the Civic Hybrid is included as part of the investment disclosed last year, according to company spokesperson John Bordignon.
