JOHN'S, N.L. — In a province where opportunities often mean leaving home, a new hockey program is offering kids a chance to excel right here.
It also filled a gap: many kids from this province have had to leave because of a lack of development opportunities in the sport that also involved a high educational component. “Newfoundlanders often grapple with the distance factor when pursuing opportunities,” said Handrigan. "This is day one, year one," Handrigan said."We don't want to turn kids away. We'll expand the program as interest grows."
