Home and community health care workers in Whitby are calling on the province to return to the bargaining table and make them a fair wage proposal.

The majority of the workers with CUPE Local 3313 have signed a petition and are delivering it to Durham Conservative MPP Todd McCarthy’s office in Bowmanville at noon Monday. The petition demands the province and Treasury Board come back to the bargaining table and negotiate a fair wage increase. CUPE says the workers have not yet settled their wage reopened negotiations after Bill 124 was overturned. The bill capped salary increases for broader public sector workers at one per cent a year for three years.“Our wages do not reflect the difficult and important work we do,” said Clare Aitken, Vice President of CUPE Local 3313 Whitby Branch. “Our work keeps people out of hospitals and in their homes.
