Don Cormier, vice president of Northumberland Ferries Limited, issued the update following a fire that caused the ferry to evacuate crew and passengers on July 22.Shoreside rescue - 182 passengers evacuated from P.E.I. ferry after fire breaks out in engine room The Coast Guard approved the company’s plan to recover the boat Saturday evening and work began at 6 a.m. Sunday. The ferry, one of two that connects Nova Scotia and P.E.I., was tied up safely by 8:30 a.m. said the statement.

There will be several other activities around safety including verifying ship stability, structural integrity, dewatering, and further environmental protection measures,” said Cormier.
