Hockey Canada is reopening its investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a woman in a London Ontario hotel room by eight members of the 2018 Team Canada World Junior Hockey Team.
The woman filed a $3.55-million lawsuit against Hockey Canada, the Canadian Hockey League and members of the team who were unnamed.Hockey Canada issued an open letter to Canadians today, indicating that it is reopening the investigation into the alleged incident, led by an independent third party that will require all players to participate.
In addition, Hockey Canada is requiring all high-performance players, coaches, team staff and volunteers to participate in mandatory sexual violence and consent training. National Team Program participants will have to undergo additional training on preventing and responding to sexual violence beginning with camps this summer.
A full third-party review of Hockey Canada governance will be conducted, and a new independent and confidential complaint mechanism is being created.
