Lightning originally created Bear Grease for the students of the Enoch Cree Nation in Central Alberta so they could see themselves represented but the pandemic put the project on hold. Last summer, they resurrected it and brought it to the Edmonton Fringe where it sold out and was held over. A white lie about a Christmas bonus leads Terry and Trish down a troublesome path of generosity and overspending that might just ruin their Christmas.
In earlier versions of the Moose’s Carol, the Chrismoose Boy had just one line at the end of the show but he soon became a favourite of audience members so his role kept being expanded. In this version, the Chrismoose Boy is lost and only Ebenezer Scrooge can find him but Charles Dickens, furious with how the Moose has portrayed his characters, is determined to put an end to all this nonsense. Ken Gardener, Rob Mitchelson and Dennis Cahill promise plenty of rambunctious improvised fun.
Kelly, who has performed his show at the Jubilee, Jack Singer Concert Hall and the Bella Centre wasn’t sure what kind of response he’d get for an in-person show so he decided to take baby steps by booking Lunchbox Theatre’s new home in the Vertigo Studio Theatre at the base of the Calgary Tower. Russell Broom, Dave’s longtime musical director, and his band will supply the house music for the show while special guests country and bluegrass musician Kyle McKearney and his wife Sara will entertain with their version of holiday music.
