Hobart Firefighters Local 1641 hope the new bright red life ring and rope they installed on Robinson Lake’s shoreline in August will save lives.

Five people drowned in the lake in the past four years, including a 30-year-old Gary woman who was nearly eight months pregnant when she drowned in June after struggling in the water with a companion who was rescued.Hobart Firefighters Local 1641 hope the new bright red life ring and rope they installed on the lake’s shoreline in August will save lives.
“We’ve responded over the past year about six or seven times, and not all were fatalities,” he said of the lake at 5250 Liverpool Road. He said the firefighters union quickly supported the effort and donated about $700 for the equipment and installation.
