HMCS Fredericton has been deployed to the Mediterranean Sea “in support of allied efforts in the region, working alongside our global allies to strengthen security, stability and international cooperation efforts throughout the Euro-Atlantic region,” a Canadian Forces news release said. In November, two Royal Canadian Navy vessels returned home to Halifax after four-months in the Baltic Sea and northern Atlantic with Operation Reassurance.
The NASAMS is a short- to medium-range ground-based air defence system that protects against drone, missile, and aircraft attack, officials said.
