After nearly a decade of writing songs for Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan and Lady A, Ryan Hurd is seeing radio success as a solo artist with “Chasing After You,” his first duet with his wife, Maren Morris.

These days Hurd is juggling both his songwriting and artist career. He is signed as a staff writer at Big Machine Music while his debut album,, available today via Arista Nashville, introduces Hurd as a thoughtful solo artist and vivid storyteller. From the standout “What Are You Drinking Tonight” and nostalgic “June, July, August” to the optimistic “Pass It On” and regretful “I Never Said I’m Sorry,”comes from the picturesque and rhythmic travel song “Coast.

“It really did encompass everything about these songs,” he says of the title. “There's a lot of summer feel-good songs on this record but there's also a relationship arc storyline.”wasn’t an easy one. He signed with Sony Music Nashville in 2017 and singles “Love in a Bar” and “To a T” followed. The songs saw moderate success with “To a T” peaking within the top 25 on the country charts.

“When you get a record deal you think you've made it and really that’s when the work starts,” he says. “It took me a long time to learn all of the jobs that go into being a successful artist.” As “Chasing After You” continues its ascent at country radio Hurd shares a realistic outlook. He admits that he no longer stresses over numbers and chart positions and instead focuses on finding creative fulfillment and working with the right people.

“It's been incredibly gratifying to get the response that you always hope for when you release music and you put a single out to country radio,” he says. “I've gone through enough heartbreak to know when it's special, when you should enjoy it and also not to get too excited because it could go away tomorrow. My perspective has changed so much in the last few years and I'm happy for my team the most because they put so much hard work into making this project go.”.
