Queretaro winemakers are seeing their product move north to Texas as the Mexican wine's demand internationally has begun to increase.

Martin Quirarte, manager at Don Artemio's in Fort Worth, poses with a bottle of Vinaltura wine from Queretaro, Mexico, Monday, August 21, 2023. Queretaro is growing as a wine making region and may become one of the biggest-growing wine regions in the world.Over 6,000 feet above sea level in the warm embrace of the Central Mexican sun sits San Juanito Vitivinícola, a vineyard in Querétaro, Mexico.

So far, Don Artemio is one of the only restaurants in North Texas selling wines from this region of Mexico. Quirarte hopes to see others develop a similar affinity for them. “The region has already positioned itself as a producer of quality wine,” Treviño said. “There are young companies with an appetite for innovation and a predisposition to implement cutting-edge agricultural technologies. I think that Querétaro still has a lot of room to grow nationally and internationally.

Querétaro’s wine is a hot topic in Mexico and the U.S., said James Tidwell, Dallas master sommelier and co-founder of the TexSom International Wine Awards.
