Sri Radha Kalachandji Temple celebrated the Krishna Janmashtami Festival in Frisco last month, the Hindu festival that commemorates the birth of Lord Krishna.

About 1,000 people attended the event at Collin College Conference Center Aug. 27 including former Collin County Judge Keith Self, who isin the 3rd Congressional District; State Rep. Matt Shaheen; Frisco City Council member Brian Livingston; and Little Elm City Council member Tony Singh. The event included cultural activities, dance and drama performances, traditional Vedic chants of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra, keynote speakers and a complimentary multi-course vegetarian dinner.

Temple President HG Nityananda Dasa, a leader in the Hare Krishna movement, told the audience about the importance of the festival and emphasized the significance of God consciousness for universal peace, harmony and well-being, according to aTo spread the joy of spiritual consciousness for the welfare of the community, he encouraged attendees to fully embrace a vision of establishing multiple centers in the area.
