LANCASTER — A Lancaster-area crash that killed a Highland man was the result of a wrong-way motorist who left the scene, authorities said Saturday.
The crash was reported 6:55 a.m. Friday on Highway 138 east of Highway 18, said the California Highway Patrol. The preliminary investigation indicated a silver or gray pickup truck westbound on the138 wound up in eastbound lanes causing the driver of a 2013 Dodge Durango to take evasive action, lose control and crash into a 2016 Kia Forte and a 2020 Toyota Tacoma, the CHP said.
The 45-year-old Highland man in the Kia was pronounced dead at the scene and the drivers of the Durango and Tacoma suffered minor injuries, the CHP said.It was not known whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash since the wrong-way motorist left the scene, the CHP said.Anyone with information regarding the collision was encouraged to contact Investigating Officer C.
