After trailing for much of the first half, the Rams roar to a victory at Farris Stadium.

MacArthur’s Noah Carrizales rolls out of pressure during the third quarter of Thursday’s game against Marshall at Dub Farris Athletic Complex on Aug. 25, 2022.After trailing for much of the first half, Marshall roared to a 43-20 victory against MacArthur on Thursday night at Farris Stadium.

With an abundance of new faces at key offensive positions, including quarterback, Marshall was slow to move the chains for the first half hour. But as the Rams settled into the third quarter, their ground-and-pound attack began to take its toll on an undersized MacArthur front seven, and the Rams rolled to 374 yards and four touchdowns on the ground to seal a season-opening win.

Facing a 4th-and-6 with four minutes before halftime, Rams sophomore slot back Juwan Johnson took a toss to the left and barreled forward for a 15-yard first-down run inside the Brahmas’ 10-yard line. Two plays later, Johnson collected another pitch from his quarterback to the right side and sliced his way into the end zone for an 8-yard touchdown, putting Marshall back in front 9-6 lead.

On the ensuing drive, Marshall junior slot back Juan Leija carried the ball 35 yards on a toss to the right, stepping out of bounds inside the MacArthur 10-yard line. On 3rd-and-goal, Hector Alvarado faked a handoff and spun out to his left, where he found Johnson wide open in the flat for a 9-yard touchdown pass.
