Downtown Vancouver is recovering from COVID, but the pace is being slowed by high housing costs and a slow return of workers to offices.

Yan added that the recovery of TransLink traffic to downtown was another positive indicator in the report.Article contentVisits to downtown’s retail corridors in 2022 were still down 14.5 per cent from pre-pandemic levels, but that was a considerable improvement from 2021 when visitor traffic was down 36.2 per cent from 2019, according to the report.
The pattern of those visits, however, has changed. The report used TransLink data to show that Saturday was the busiest day for downtown traffic. Pre-pandemic, the busiest travel day as usually Friday. The Downtown Van report found that office-related traffic to downtown improved in 2022, but numbers were still down 38 per cent from pre-pandemic levels.
