7 Gross Things That Sometimes Happen When You Bleach Your Hair

"Caustic reaction from the chemicals applied may result in irritant dermatitis. This skin reaction occurs when a substance damages your skin's outer protective layer," says Master Colorist at Rob Peetoom Williamsburg, Hitomi Ikeda. "Symptoms [of bleach burn] include redness and itching on the scalp," Dr. Saedi says, "It can happen immediately after the treatment. It feels similar to a burn on other parts of the skin."
Do not wash your hair at least 3-4 days before your appointment. Longer is better.
