Here’s what’s coming to HBO Max in January 2023 — and what’s leaving
HBO Max is loaded with new original series and library movies in January 2023, and will kick off its first live-sports programming.
The most anticipated addition may be “The Last of Us” , a post-apocalyptic drama starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as a pair trying to survive a treacherous journey through a quarantine zone full of killer zombies. It’s based on the popular videogame series, and boasts an sprawling cast that includes Gabriel Luna, Anna Torv, Melania Lynskey... There’s also “Velma” , an adult animated comedy/mystery series telling the origin story of the brains behind the Scooby-Doo gang; the rock-climbing competition series “The Climb” , hosted by Jason Momoa; Season 2 of the news-interview show “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace” ; and the return of the investigative show “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel” .Meanwhile, Warner Bros. Discovery’s WBD HBO Max and TNT are becoming the new home to live coverage of the U.S. men’s and women’s soccer teams in 2023.
HBO is also adding a solid slate of movies, including the “John Wick” trilogy, “Lawrence of Arabia,” “The Crying Game” and “When We Were Kings” .
